Selfies assist officers in arrest
A teenager posted selfies after allegedly stealing a cell phone, and the social media post assisted officers in his arrest.
Nicholas Antonia Hayes, 19, is being charged with petty larceny after he allegedly asked to borrow a woman’s cell phone at a local hospital and stole the phone. Hayes then took photos of himself on the phone and posted them to his Facebook page.
The woman used her cell phone number to log on Facebook and found his pictures.
Hayes allegedly sold the phone for $20 after using it.
Hayes pleaded guilty and was ordered by a judge to provide funds to the woman to replace her phone. Hayes was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
